REGIONAL OVERVIEW
Currently, the Beacon Employment Report | Texas focuses on three of the state’s largest metropolitan areas, the Dallas, Houston, and Austin metros.
The Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metro saw a sizable increase of 4,000 jobs in the latest numbers, a 0.1% increase in employment on a month-over-month basis. This represents a 1.8% increase year-over-year.
The Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land area posted an increase of 300 nonfarm jobs in March, meaning payroll growth was effectively flat on a month-over-month basis. However, payrolls in the Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land area were still up 2.6% year-over-year. In absolute terms, this metro has added 72,700 new jobs over the last twelve months, ranking it second amongst Texas’s major metros.
On an annual basis, job growth has been strongest in Waco, where payroll growth has increased 2.9% year-over-year followed by College Station-Bryan (2.8%) and Sherman-Denison (2.7%).
A handful of the state’s metros experienced job losses over the month, but most were minor. The largest losses occurred in Austin-Round Rock where payrolls declined by 1,600 but were still up 2.4% year-over-year.
