REGIONAL OVERVIEW
Currently, the Beacon Employment Report | Texas focuses on three of the state’s largest metropolitan areas, the Dallas, Houston, and Austin metros.
The Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metro saw a modest decline of 1,500 jobs in the latest numbers. Despite the monthly contraction, payrolls in the region were up 1.6% year-over-year. More of the losses were concentrated in the Dallas-Plano-Irving metro, which lost 9,200 jobs in the month of June, a month-over-month decline of 0.3%.
The Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land area posted a tepid increase of 100 nonfarm jobs in June, effectively unchanged from the prior month. Payrolls were still up 2.1% on a year-over-year basis. In absolute terms, this metro has added 71,000 new jobs over the last twelve months, ranking first amongst Texas’s major metros.
Austin employers added 1,100 new jobs in June, a month-over-month increase of 0.1%. This represents a 2.1% increase year-over-year. Payrolls in the Austin-Round Rock area are 18.5% above pre-pandemic levels, the highest amongst Texas’s major metropolitan areas.
