Stephen Zimmer Research Associate
Stephen G. Zimmer, Ph.D. is a Research Associate at Beacon Economics. Dr. Zimmer conducts data research and analysis in support of the firm’s principal practice areas. His professional and academic focus includes the linkages between economics and public policy – particularly as it pertains to human capital and education policy, fostering understanding of economic theory, and empirical and data analysis.
Prior to joining Beacon Economics, Dr. Zimmer was an Economist with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ National Longitudinal Survey program, and before that, an Economist in the BLS’s Office of Field Operations. In his work at the BLS, Dr. Zimmer used large-scale longitudinal datasets to conduct econometric analysis of education, health, and labor market behavior. He also helped shape the redesign of national survey questions, evaluated industry concentration and price trends using NAICS codes, and conducted industry-specific research for the Producer Price Index (PPI) program. Additionally, Dr. Zimmer taught Intermediate Microeconomics and Economic Problems & Public Policy at George Mason University.
Previously, Dr. Zimmer also served as Program Manager at Plutus Nonprofit Solutions where he worked with nonprofits and associations to formalize complex business needs into actionable technical requirements.
